South Boston to Chase City short day

Yesterday was a pretty fun day. It Tom's and my birthday, and yesterday is was Morgan's birthday. That's a pretty cool coincindence. This makes my 3rd birthday I've celebrated while on a bike tour. Neato!

Yesterday we rode a quick 29 miles with only 1,000 feet of climbing to get into Chase City. We rode from about 8:30 to noon, with only 2:01 on bike.  The day started with Steve making us a great breakfast of bacon, eggs, and biscuits and gravy, and ended with a huge dinner with tons of Morgan's relatives.

The mayor of Chase City attended the dinner, and later gave us all plaques,  keys to the city, and then named August 14th "Team Maddie Day," in honor of Maddie and the over $16,000 the guys have raised for DIPG research while doing this trip. Wow.

Today is a rest day, and we've been doing little more than laying around, reading, watching TV, and eating. I was able to watch some olympics last night too, which was a nice change.  Our bodies need this after pushing through the Appalacians with near 80 mile days.

Tomorrow we do 40 some miles into Alberta (I think that's the name) and then a bunch more short days like that until we finish on Friday. I'll have done about 1,000 miles with the guys and maybe 1,400 miles or so on this tour if I count RAGBRAI. Not a bad way to spend a month :)
